Barbara Wimmer was a music addict since a child. She collected vinyl and cds, played flute, bass guitar until she got hooked by electronic music, especially Drum’n*Bass, and started to DJ in 1998 under the nickname “Shroombab”. The vibrating sub basses and broken beats fascinated her enough to try out sequencers and samplers herself, making her first steps in electronic music production soon after that. Releases on 13 different labels in Germany, UK, Romania and the USA followed. But it lasted until 2010 that Shroombab releases her debut album.

With Splendid! Austria’s “drum&bass queen” releases her first album on High Tension Recordings, which also shows her influences besides Drum’n’Bass. She plays a light-theremin in the intro-track, where she can make tones without even touching the instrument, just with the help of light. On the tracks “Don’t Push Me” and “Overproof” with Pharmacarma you can hear her reggae influence, but on “Outlier”, “Invasion” and “Para Voce” you get to hear what her heart beats for the most: technoid and dark vibes, with straight forward beats. Techstep and neurofunk are her favorite sub-genres of Drum’n’Bass, and you will definitely notice that as well with the selection of remixers she choose for support: Polarity, Dementia, Isee, M-Force and Alkor did fullfill their duty to its best.
